Nabi stars in massive Afghanistan win

All-rounder scores brisk 81 and then picks up five wickets to condemn Namibia to 190-run loss

Mohammad Nabi’s all-round performance helped Afghanistan beat Namibia by a huge margin of 190 runs in the 47th match of World Cricket League, played at Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek on Friday (August 9).

Afghanistan, who was put into bat, had a less-than ideal start, losing Nawroz Mangal in the fourth over of the innings with just 15 runs on the board. Mohammad Shahzad then collaborated with Karim Sadiq to string together a 110-run stand between them.

Shahzad’s 130-ball 113 and Nabi’s power-packed hitting propelled Afghanistan to a total of 289 for 4 in its 50 overs. Nabi scored 81 runs in 45 balls with four fours and five hits over the boundary.

Namibia started slowly, scoring 21 runs in the first eight overs. Hamid Hassan provided Afghanistan with its first breakthrough when he bowled Xander Pitchers for 11 runs.

Namibia’s innings then collapsed and it was bowled out for a meagre 99 in the 33rd over with seven batsmen failing to get into double figures.

Nabi starred with the ball as well, picking up five wickets and giving away just 12 runs in his 8.1 overs. Sadiq, Dawlat Zardan and Hamza Hotak picked up one wicket each, while Hassan finished with two.

Brief Scores: Afghanistan 289/4 in 50 overs (Mohammad Shahzad 113, Mohammad Nabi 81; Louis van der Westhuizen 1-52) beat Namibia 99 all out in 32.1 overs (Stephen Baard 30, Nicolaas Schlotz 17; Mohammad Nabi 5-12) by 190 runs.
