After a good outing with Sri Lanka A last week, Ramith Rambukwella, the allrounder, has been drafted into the squad. Upul Tharanga and Jehan Mubarak have been left out.
Dimuth Karunaratne, the opener, has been named despite being pegged as a Test specialist in the early stages of his international career. Chaturanga de Silva and Milinda Siriwardene were the allrounders named, while Ashan Priyanjan and Isuru Udana, the seam bowler who last represented Sri Lanka in 2012, were also included.
Tillakaratne Dilshan was planning on announcing his retirement from Tests after Sri Lanka’s tour of Zimbabwe that was initially scheduled for October. Since the series has been postponed, he is set to announce his retirement today.
Dilshan will continue playing limited-overs cricket and hopes to play until the 2015 World Cup. He has been named in the limited-overs squad to tour New Zealand apart from the usual names of Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.
Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Kulasekara, Suranga Lakmal, Shaminda Eranga, Thisara Perera, Rangana Herath, Sachithra Senanayake and Ajantha Mendis are probables for the final squad.
The final squad will be picked right before the start of the series.
