Szwarczynski, Borren make short work of Nepal's 171

Batsmen take the Netherlands to easy victory after pacers dominate in Mount Maunganui
The Netherlands dominated in its ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier Seventh place play-off clash against Nepal to clinch a seven-wicket victory at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Saturday (January 26).

Eric Szwarczynski played a sheet anchor’s role in the Netherlands’ innings with a patient 73-ball 56, as Wesley Barresi (31), Peter Borren and Michael Swart chipped in with responsible knocks in his support to chase down the target of 172. Borren and Swart remained unbeaten on 45 and 27 respectively to hand The Netherlands a win in just 31.5 overs.

Basant Regmi picked up 2 for 50 for Nepal, as the other bowlers failed to make inroads into the Netherlands batting lineup.

Earlier, put in to bat, Nepal got off to a slow start losing its first two wickets for 18 in 9.3 overs. Captain Paras Khadka tried to consolidate with a 38-ball 29 but lacked support from the other end, as Nepal slumped to 54 for 5 inside the first 20 overs. Batting at No. 6, Sharad Vasawkar top-scored with a 90-ball 42, before medium pacer Ahsan Malik went past his defence to bag his third wicket of the match. The lower order contributed with short stints at the crease to take Nepal to 171 for 9 in its 50 overs.

The Netherlands will play Canada in its next match at Mount Maunganui on Tuesday while Nepal take on Uganda later in the day.
