Meg Lanning, the Australia Women captain, will lead the Southern Stars in a bid to win their seventh ICC Women’s World Cup.

Ranked as the No.1 women’s One-Day International batter in the world, Lanning is also set to feature in her second World Cup.

The classy batter has scored 2671 runs in 57 ODI matches, including an unbeaten 135 as her highest knock.

Lanning completed the 2015 Ashes series as the second-highest run-scorer, including a century in the second ODI in Bristol, and has enjoyed her time playing in the UK.

“I’ve played a couple of Ashes series over here. I’ve always really enjoyed it and the crowds always come out and support,” said Lanning.

With eight teams contesting the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, Lanning noted the competition was even and that any team could win on their day.

“The great thing is, it’s going to be a very open tournament and (it’s going to be) very hard to get to the end on top but (we’re) looking forward to the challenge,” she said.

“All of the teams coming here are very strong. Every game is going to be exciting and there are certainly some great players to come and see.”

Australia will open its ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 campaign on June 26 against the West Indies in Taunton.
