Bangladesh speedster fined for breaching ICC Code of Conduct

Nahid Rana was fined 25 per cent of his match fee during the first Test against Ireland.

Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct on Day 1 of the first Test against Ireland in Sylhet.

Nahid was found guilty of breaching Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”

In addition to the fine, one demerit point has been added to Nahid’s disciplinary record. It is Nahid’s first offence in a 24-month period.

During the 27th over of the Ireland innings, Nahid fielded the ball on his follow-through and threw it inappropriately at batter Cade Carmichael, hitting him on the pads. The batter had not moved out of his crease.

No formal hearing was required as Nahid accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referee. On-field umpires Sam Nogajski and Ahsan Raza, third umpire Richard Illingworth and fourth umpire Tanvir Ahmed levelled the charge.

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
