England captain Jos Buttler has admitted his side's pride was dented during their dismal ICC Men's Cricket World Cup defence in India last year as the reigning ICC Men's T20 World Cup champions attempt to give a better account of themselves at next month's 20-over showcase.

Buttler's side failed to make it out of the group stages of last year's 50-over World Cup as they won just three of their nine matches when striving to defend the coveted trophy they won over New Zealand in exciting fashion on home soil four years earlier.

England now get the chance to make amends for their disappointing 50-over World Cup campaign when they travel to the USA and West Indies for next month’s T20 World Cup and it is case of deja vu for Buttler and his side as they get another chance to win back-to-back ICC trophies after their success over Pakistan at the MCG in 2022.

Buttler is hopeful that England's players have learnt their lessons from last year's disappointing campaign in India and is confident his side bounce back to their best when the T20 World Cup commences on June 1.

"That pride was obviously dented and it was a really disappointing competition," Buttler said.

"But life moves on, it's a chapter in the book and there's lessons you learn but we're presented with a new opportunity, a different format.

"We go to the West Indies and want to give a better account of ourselves."

England will prepare for the T20 World Cup with a four-match T20I series at home against Pakistan, with the first of those matches coming in Leeds on Wednesday when star quick Jofra Archer is expected to return from injury.

Archer was the hero of England's successful World Cup campaign in 2019, but has battled injuries to his back and elbow in recent times and the 29-year-old hasn’t made an appearance for England in any format since he featured in a T20I against Bangladesh in Mirpur in March last year.

Buttler issued a warning to rival teams by declaring Archer was bowling quick in the nets and the tall right-armer was ready to make an impact against Pakistan and at the upcoming T20 World Cup.

"He's bowling quick," Buttler said.

"It was good fun facing him in the nets yesterday - a really good challenge. It's great to see him back.”
