England unveil squads for South Africa and Ireland series
On the back of a pulsating five-Test series against India, England shift their attention to the upcoming white-ball assignments.
England have announced their squads for the limited overs series against South Africa and Ireland.
With the red-ball leg of the home summer behind them, England will next feature in three ODIs and as many T20Is against the Proteas starting September 2 in Headingley.
The home series will be followed by a three-match contest against Ireland in Malahide from September 17.
Harry Brook, who was appointed England’s white-ball captain after the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year, will continue to lead in the home series against South Africa.
Meanwhile, Jacob Bethell has been named skipper for the tour of Ireland, with Brook rested for the three-match T20I series.
“Jacob Bethell has impressed with his leadership qualities ever since he has been with the England squads and the series against Ireland will provide him with the opportunity to further develop those skills on the international stage," England men's selector Luke Wright was quoted in a statement from England Cricket.
Bethell, 21, is set to become the youngest England men's team captain. The current holder of the feat is Monty Bowden, who captained England at 23 years old and 144 days in a Test against South Africa in Cape Town back in 1888/89.

A major boost for the hosts comes in the form of pacer Jofra Archer’s inclusion for both the ODI and the T20I series.
Archer had starred for England during the recent five-Test series against India, having made his comeback to the longest format following a four-year hiatus.
Pacer Sonny Baker has received his maiden call-up to the England squad for the ODI series against South Africa as well as the Ireland T20Is.
