Berrington the hero as Scotland go top of League 2 standings
Scotland well placed to feature in the World Cup Qualifier following a thrilling victory over the USA.
Skipper Richie Berrington stepped up once again when it counted as Scotland pulled off a narrow victory over the USA in Nepal to move to the top of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 standings.
Berrington claimed a superb diving catch in the final over to dismiss USA centurion and potential match-winner Saiteja Mukkamalla as Scotland held on for a two-run triumph (DLS Method) in a rain affected clash in Kirtipur.
The victory helped Scotland surpass the USA and move to the top of the League 2 standings and further strengthens the chances of the European side progressing directly to the Qualifier tournament for next year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
The top four teams in League 2 will earn a place at the Qualifier event for the 50-over World Cup and Scotland have Berrington to thank for his decisive catch in the field against the USA.
"It was a pretty important moment, so I'm luck it stuck in my hands," Berrington said of his catch to remove Mukkamalla for 104.
"That was a fantastic knock and once again we've gone down to the wire. We made it tougher than we would have liked but really important that we held our nerve.
"It took us a while to get going again after the rain break. I'm just pleased we managed to close it out. We're finding a way to get over the line."

The USA entered the final over needing 16 for victory and with Mukkamalla still at the crease that looked a distinct possibility.
The equation was reduced to six required from the final ball with Mohammad Mohsin on strike to Brandon McMullen, but the USA No.10 could only manage to hit a four.
It was McMullen that was awarded the Player of the Match for his innings of 55 and two wickets with the ball, with Scotland amassing a big total of 321/6 with the bat and rain forced USA's victory target to be reduced.
Their target was 249 in 32 overs and Mukkamalla almost single-handedly guided his side across the line, only for Berrington's late heroics in the field that helped Scotland hold on and register the crucial victory.
