LIVE: Quick wickets put England six down in CWC25 clash

The hosts, coming on the back of successive losses face England, who are unbeaten at the tournament so far.

India claimed quick wickets to leave England six down in their ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 in Indore.

Sree Charani provided India with a crucial breakthrough, dismissing captain Natalie Sciver-Brunt to end a 100-run stand before Heather Knight was run out. Charani then bowled Sophia Dunkley to leave England with half their side back in the pavilion.

Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight had added 113 runs for the third wicket, shifting the momentum firmly in England’s favour before Charani struck. The England skipper attempted to loft one over the covers but mistimed her shot, offering a catch to Harmanpreet Kaur.

While Sciver-Brunt played the anchor role, Knight led from the front with a brilliant century, finding the boundaries at regular intervals to keep the pressure on India.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur holds onto a stunning catch to remove her England counterpart Nat Sciver-Brunt at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025.

Knight and captain Natalie Sciver-Brunt had earlier steadied England’s innings clash against India after the loss of both openers including the in-form Amy Jones (56).

Earlier, Deepti Sharma struck twice to remove England openers Tamsin Beaumont and Amy Jones. Beaumont and Jones had put on a strong fifty-run opening stand before the former departed as she was bowled while attempting a sweep. The wicket also marked a personal milestone for Deepti, who completed 150 ODI wickets.

Deepti struck again when Amy Jones attempted to go big but was caught at mid on where Smriti Mandhana pulled off a brilliant diving catch to leave England two down.

Before the first wicket, Amy Jones had anchored the opening partnership alongside Beaumont and brought up her maiden World Cup fifty, giving England a solid start to their innings.

England opener Amy Jones took the attack to India's bowling attack at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 contest.

Earlier, Nat Sciver-Brunt won the toss and elected to bat first in a mouth-watering clash. A major change in India's lineup for the crucial contest sees Jemimah Rodrigues make way for pacer Renuka Singh Thakur.

The hosts, after starting their World Cup campaign with back-to-back wins against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, faced successive defeats against South Africa and Australia, making their road to the semi-final tougher as they face an undefeated England.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side would take some confidence from their recent England tour where they had emerged victorious in the ODI series.

The match also marked special milestones for two England players with Heather Knight featuring in her 300th ODI and Charlie Dean, who is making her 50th ODI appearance.

England will be looking to secure their semi-final ticket while India are in need of a win to keep their knockout hopes alive at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025.

England, on the other side, have had a near perfect tournament so far, notching up three early wins in a row while being placed at number three in the points table.

However they did face a scare from Pakistan, who ran through their batting in their previous outing, before rain forced the encounter to be abandoned.
