New attendance record set at T20 World Cup match
The England-New Zealand clash at The Oval registered the highest turnout for a group stage fixture in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup history.
Setting new precedent at what has already been a historic ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, host England’s group stage game against New Zealand saw a record attendance at The Oval.
A total of 21,018 fans showed up for the blockbuster clash, eclipsing the record set by the India-Pakistan fixture earlier in the tournament when 18,814 were in the stands at Edgbaston.
The attendance in the latest fixture that saw England prevail builds on crossing the 125,000 mark in total during the group stage, making it the highest-selling ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
The ongoing 10th edition of the tournament in England and Wales has reached out to more fans than ever, with record broadcast numbers and digital engagement.
The competition is headed to a grand finish with five matches remaining in the tournament, including the semi-finals and the final at Lord’s on July 5.
While England and the West Indies have sealed their semi-finals spots from Group B, Sunday’s action will determine which two teams progress from Group A.
