Uganda prepares for UAE I Shield challenge

Uganda team regroups at Lugogo Oval after a festive break

Uganda prepares for UAE I Shield challenge - Cricket News
Uganda team has regrouped at Lugogo Oval after a festive break to prepare itself for its crunch ICC Intercontinental Shield clash against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Dubai from 17-24 January.

With the team facing a heavy itinerary early in the year, national coach Mohammed Ebrahim Barney will work on the team's fitness levels and mental preparedness in a bid to avoid injuries and fatigue in the long-run.

Team Manager Justin Ligyalingi told the Daily Monitor: "It is going to be a full house. We have summoned 20 cricketers for practice and the technical team is going to be very strict on discipline and attendance issues."

Barney, the 49-year-old coach from South Africa, was worried about the team's bowling and made it clear that more emphasis would be put on batting during all training sessions. He said: "UAE is going to come hard at us as they want to take over the helm of the standings. We don't have all the time in the world. We have to practice every day and play as many trial games as possible."

Uganda is currently top of the four-team ICC Intercontinental Shield table with 20 points with UAE close behind with 14. Both teams will play a four-day game, one 50-over and two Twenty20 games in Abu Dhabi.
