Namibia see off stubborn Kenya

Kenya fails to save match inspite of good effort on the final day losing to Namibia by an innings and one run

Namibia beat Kenya by an innings and one run in their Intercontinental Cup meeting in Windhoek despite a valiant batting effort on the final day.

Resuming on 109-2 needing 326 to avoid an innings defeat, Kenya batted until 11 overs from the close before they were finally bowled out for 325.

Namibia got off to a perfect start on the final morning when Christi Viljoen removed Irfan Karim for 59. Skipper Collins Obuya (46 off 51 balls) played fluently but when he was the fifth wicket to fall it seemed that the game was up.

Stubborn resistance was then put up by the middle and lower order, led by Tanmay Mishra, who added 51 to his first innings century.

Number 10 Nehemiah Odhiambo hit 31 in a ninth-wicket stand of 46 but Kenya were still 12 runs short of making Namibia bat when he became Vijoen's third victim.

Mishra's vigil was finally ended eight overs later when Louis Klazinga bowled the right-hander.

Opening bowlers Klazinga (3-82) and Viljoen (3-72) were rewarded for their persistence on what remained a good batting wicket.

Namibia move up to fourth in the ICC Intercontinental Cup table while Kenya remain in seventh, 12 points ahead of bottom-placed Canada.
