Bowlers seal 35-run win for Scotland - Cricket News
Scotland celebrates.
In a tricky wicket, Scotland got lucky at the start by winning the toss, upon which it obviously chose to bat. And though run-scoring wasn’t easy, Scotland managed to put 113 runs on the board, which proved to be 35 runs too many for Kenya in the end in their Twenty20 International played at Mannofield Park in Aberdeenon Thursday (July 4).
The Scotland first-wicket partnership of 40 runs between Richie Berrington and Calum McLeod was worth its weight in gold considering the match situation. Though the partnership was broken in the eighth over, Preston Mommsen’s quickfire unbeaten 24 helped Scotland reach 113 for 6 in their 20 overs.
Kenya was never really in the match, losing wickets every few minutes. Gordon Goudie was the best of the Scottish bowlers, striking in the third over and then returning to polish off the tail to return figures of 3 for 22. Gordon Drummond and McLeod picked up two wickets apiece as well as Kenya was bowled out for just 78 in the 19th over.
Brief Scores: Scotland 113/6 in 20 overs (Richie Berrington 29, Preston Mommsen 24*; Tanmay Mishra 3/25) beat Kenya 78 in 18.5 overs (Duncan Allan 15, Tanmay Mishra 13; Gordon Goudie 3/22, Gordon Drummond 2/10, Calum MacLeod 2/17) by 35 runs.
