Umpires Ahsan Raza , Steve Davis and Michaeal Gough inspect the playing surface after torrential rain delayed the start of play in the Uganda v USA.

The ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier Group A encounter between Uganda and the United Stated of America was abandoned without a ball being bowled at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday (November 21).

The result dented Uganda’s qualification chances as it earned only one point and is now placed sixth with three points, just above USA by virtue of a better net run rate.

USA came into the match having suffered a seven-wicket defeat in the hands of the United Arab Emirates, and will now play Hong Kong, which is currently second in the group with eight points, on Friday.

Uganda, which needs a win to stay in contention to qualify for the ICC World Twenty20 2014 in Bangladesh, will on Friday face Ireland, which still remains unbeaten in the tournament with four wins from five matches and one no-result.
