Matt Machan top-scored for Scotland with an unbeaten 67 off 46 balls.

Scotland defeated the Netherlands by 15 runs in a Group B encounter in the 41st match of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament at the ICC Academy in Dubai on Friday (November 22).

Put in, Scotland posted 165 for 4 from their 20 overs and then restricted the Netherlands to 150 for 6 for their third win in the group.

Scotland lost Calum MacLeod, one of its star batsmen, in the third over, but Richie Berrington and Matt Machan put on 44 runs in 5.2 overs for the second wicket. Ahsan Malik provided the Netherlands the breakthrough by dismissing Berrington for 38 in the 9th over.

Peter Borren and Michael Swart picked up two quick wickets and Scotland slumped to 93 for 4 in the 15th over. However, Matt Machan (67* off 46 balls) and Rob Taylor (41* off 19 balls), were then involved in a game-changing 72-run stand in just 5.5 overs to help their team post a competitive total.

The Netherlands' chase was jolted by Neil Carter, who picked up Stephan Myburgh's wicket in the third over. Swart and Wesley Baressi then got together and added 52 runs off 8 overs for the second wicket.

Majid Haq picked up a couple of quick wickets to leave the Netherlands struggling at 112 for 6, but despite Barresi’s best efforts, it fell short by 15 runs. Barresi remained unbeaten on 70 off 49 balls and shared an unbroken stand of 38 with Michael Rippon for the seventh wicket but it wasn’t enough.

Haq picked up three wickets, while Carter, Safyaan Sharif and Taylor picked up one each.

This defeat pushes Netherlands to the second position in Group B with 8 points and faces Kenya in its last group match on Saturday. Scotland is at fifth place with 6 points and will play Denmark on Saturday.
