India Women win series 2-0 - Cricket News
Gouher Sultana picks up another four-wicket haul to lead India to victory.
For the second time in two matches, Gouher Sultana took four wickets, guiding India Women to a seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka Women in the second One-Day International match at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday (January 21).

Sultana followed up her career-best 4 for 4 on Sunday, with 4 for 15 from ten overs as Sri Lanka was bowled out for 140 in 47.1 overs. Smriti Mandhana made 51 as India chased the target in 39.3 overs to win the series 2-0, with one more game remaining.

Put in to bat, Sri Lanka got off to a lightning start, with Chamari Atapattu and Yasoda Mendis putting 61 on the board in just 7.2 overs. Atapattu played second fiddle, contributing just nine runs to the partnership, before she was caught off Amita Sharma.

Amita struck again a couple of deliveries later, this time getting rid of the dangerous Mendis by trapping her in front. Mendis made 56 in 29 balls that included seven fours and three sixes.

Chamari Polgampola (28) and Shashikala Siriwardene had a brief stand of 25 runs, but after Siriwardene became Sultana’s first wicket of the day, Sri Lanka collapsed.

It lost the last eight wickets for 50 runs.

India made a steady start with a 74-run opening stand between Poonam Raut (38) and Smriti Mandhana (51). After Raut’s run out in the 19th over, Chandima Gunaratne and Siriwardene removed Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur respectively in quick succession.

But, Mithali Raj, India’s captain, remained unbeaten on 31 and in Karun Jain’s company took her team to victory.

The third ODI will be played on Thursday at the same venue.
