FAQs – Media accreditation for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015  

When will the accreditation process run?

The media accreditation process for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 will be a multi-stage process, and the first stage will run from Sunday, 19 October to Friday, 21 November 2014.

Should your application be approved, you will be invited to a second phase of accreditation, where you will update your online application by identifying matches you intend to cover. This second phase of the accreditation process will run from Monday 1 to Monday 15 December 2014.

At the relevant points in the tournament, separate application periods will open for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

Is the application system the same as for the past few global ICC events?

The application system is slightly different to the system used for the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014.

You or your organisation’s coordinator will be required to register the organisation before you apply for individual tournament accreditation.  For any queries on the system or its requirements, please email the media accreditation manager at

As the tournament is being held across two countries, there are some additional pieces of information that are requested in order to meet the local requirements in either or both Australia and New Zealand.  This includes additional contact information, as well as identification documents and information such as previous names.

Who is the coordinator?

The coordinator is a central contact point in your organisation, such a commissioning Editor, who can oversee all applications from your organisation.  Further details are noted within the accreditation application process, but, if you have any queries, please email the media accreditation manager at

When will my accreditation be approved?

The ICC aims to approve accreditation applications on a weekly basis but only after the applicant has supplied all the required documents, undergone the relevant security and screening processes and  the assigning Editor has approved the application.

Until the application is approved/endorsed by the relevant Editor or Employer, the ICC will not be able to process the application. As such, all Editors are strongly advised to approve their staffers' applications at their earliest convenience. At the same time, Editors are requested only to approve applications of staff members who will be at the tournament in a working capacity.

Who approves media applications?

The ICC reserves the right to approve/reject any media application.

Who is eligible for media accreditation?

Working media who have assignments from their organisations and are also accredited by their country’s cricket board are eligible for media accreditation. When approving the application, the ICC will consider a number of things, including past history of covering ICC events.

Will the accreditation pass be enough to secure a seat in the press box?

No. Like in any other ICC event, a media accreditation pass will only allow the applicant to attend pre-tournament activities, provide venue access on training. For match day accreditation, there will be a match day accreditation process, which will be dictated by the priority order detailed below.

Why do I need to provide an assignment letter from my editor?

This is to ensure that you are a bona fide member of the media, and that you have a proper assignment to cover the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

The assignment letter must be on an official letterhead from the Editor of your organisation that has assigned you to specifically cover the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

What if I am a freelance journalist or photographer?

You will also need to submit an assignment letter from your commissioning Editor on an official letterhead. This is to ensure that you have a proper assignment and will be arriving in Australia or New Zealand to cover the tournament.

What if I get an assignment after the closure of the accreditation process?

There will be no exceptions and once the process is closed, no late applications will be received.

If you are hopeful of an assignment, then you are advised to apply for tournament accreditation between 17 October and 21 November 2014 with all the relevant documents.  If you have not received a final letter of assignment, you may apply with an intended letter of assignment that included the details of the assigning Editor.  This will allow you to open your application, but your application will not be approved until the final letter is received.

Will applicants from the host country/ies get priority on accreditation/match day ticketing?

No. The ICC treats every applicant fairly and equally, in line with its accreditation policies and as per the priority order.

Will quotas be applied to each organisation or match?

Yes, there is a quota for the total number of applicants from each organisation that may have tournament accreditation, and a quota for the number of accredited media who can attend a match on match day.  The quotas are:


·       For Fairfax and News Ltd, no more than 35 written press and 15 photographers will be accredited per organisation for the tournament

·       For all other organisations, no more than 10 written press and 15 photographers will be accredited per organisation for the tournament

Match day:

·       For News Limited, Fairfax, international agencies, national agencies from competing countries, and national daily newspapers from competing countries, no more than two (2) written press and two (2) photographers will be accredited per match

·       For all other organisations, no more than one (1) written press and two (2) photographers will be accredited per match

Why do I need to provide my passport or ID?

The provision of the ID or Passport enables the ICC to firstly confirm the identity of the applicant, and, secondly, this ID will be used by the ICC’s accreditation staff when the applicant arrives to collect his/her pass from the designated collection point to verify identification.

If I provide an authority letter to my colleague, will s/he be able to collect my accreditation card?

No, each individual is required to collect his or her own accreditation in person.  Media must also produce proof of identity on collection of accreditation, which will be the document nominated at the time of applying online. 

Why am I not selecting my match choices now in this first phase of accreditation process?

Journalists tend to be unaware of their company’s coverage policies until shortly before the start of a tournament. As such, the ICC has continued with a multi-phase accreditation process.

Approximately two months before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, journalists will apply for tournament accreditation and then approximately eight weeks before the start of the tournament they confirm that they will be covering the tournament by indicating the matches that they wish to cover. 

If, between 1 and 15 December 2014, the applicant does not indicate the matches he/she will be covering, it will be presumed that the applicant will not be attending the tournament and as such, his/her application will be cancelled.

How and when will I know I have been accredited for a match?

After you have identified the matches you wish to cover in the second stage of application, you will be advised by email by the accreditation team which matches you have been accredited for.

What if I want to change my selection of matches?

The ICC will try its best to accommodate such a request, but it may always not be possible. Therefore, please think carefully before applying. If a change is required, please email the media accreditation manager at with the change request. Please do not assume this change has been facilitated until you receive notification.

How will the accreditation process for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final run?

Applicants will have to apply for match day for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The process for the quarter-finals and semi-finals will run between 16 and 17 March 2015, while applications for the finals will be accepted immediately after the second semi-final concludes. Priority will be given to journalists whose teams will feature in the matches.

What happens if I miss most of the matches I had indicated that I’ll be covering?

In that case, you will drop in the pecking order for high profile matches and the knock-out stages of the tournament.

If for some unexpected reason you cannot attend a match you are accredited for, you are strongly advised to inform the media accreditation manager at  so that this is updated on the system.

What if I don’t cover the tournament even after selecting matches in the second phase of accreditation?

In the event that the applicant fails to collect his/her pass, he/she will not be granted accreditation for forthcoming ICC events.

Will there be a waiting list for matches?

No, there will be no waiting list. Only the media that receive confirmation emails will be allowed to cover the matches.

Where will I collect my accreditation pass from?

When your application has been approved and you have selected your matches in the second phase of the process (1 December to 15 December) you will be asked to select your collection point, which will be an accreditation centre in one of the 14 host cities. 

Information regarding the accreditation centre locations and opening dates will be available in the tournament media guide and on the ICC Media Zone. These details will also be emailed to you.

I’ve lost my username and/or password. How do I access my application to make my match choices for the second phase?

You can recover your password either by contacting the media accreditation manager at  or from the Login Page of the accreditation portal ( by doing the following:

-        Click on Recover Password button in login page

-        You will be prompted to enter your e-mail address. Enter the e-mail address that you used to submit your original application in phase 1

-        If the entered e-mail id is correct, the Password will be mailed to your e-mail id

I have submitted my application but I have realised there is a mistake in it (i.e. wrong date of birth, misspelt name). Who do I need to contact to make the correction?

Please email the media accreditation manager at  with your Registration number & Email address and informing them of the mistake in your application so that this can be corrected on the system.

If I have tournament accreditation, which areas can I access on a match/non-match day?

On a non-match day, you can watch training sessions and attend pre-match media conferences and also enjoy the facilities in the media centre.

On a match day, members of the written press who have match day accreditation can access the press box and press conference rooms, while photographers who have match day accreditation will have access to a designated area pitch-side.

I am an NRH cameraperson, can I enter a venue on a match day?

All Non-Rights Holders (NRHs) will be accredited for the tournament, but only reporters will be accredited on match days and be granted access to a venue.

However, to facilitate NRH camerapersons, all unedited post-match media conferences will be streamed live on the ICC website and uploaded to the ICC Media Zone. 

What does filming on a match day mean?

Media is not permitted to record, broadcast or transmit by any means whatsoever any moving images, sounds, data, results, scores or commentary of or concerning any of the matches, or the venues, attendees or any activity at any match.

Can I access media facilities on a match day if I do not have match-day accreditation?

No, media will not be permitted to access a venue on a non-match day unless you have received approval for a press box position or photographers’ position for that specific match.

Will I need to collect a match day ticket for each match I am accredited for?

For the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, media will not need to collect a match day ticket.  Access to the venue will be managed by the information contained on your tournament accreditation pass.

Are accreditations transferable?

No, accreditations are not transferable and can only be issued to one person to cover the event.

If you are no longer able to attend the tournament, the ICC may consider cancelling your accreditation and accrediting a colleague to replace you.  Please email the media accreditation manager at

I can no longer attend a match that I have been accredited for. Can I send a colleague in my place?

Accreditations are not transferrable but the ICC will aim to assist if an accredited media person can no longer attend a match but an accredited colleague is able to attend.  Please email the media accreditation manager at with the colleague’s details to confirm if this is possible.

What happens if I breach the Terms and Conditions for media accreditation?

Media found to have breached the tournament’s Accreditation Terms and Conditions may be refused entry to a Venue and/or a Zone or may be expelled from the venue and/or the tournament.

What if my accreditation card is cancelled during an event?

How do I apply for a visa for Australia and/or New Zealand?

It is media’s responsibility to secure its visas for the tournament, though the ICC will assist where it can with the provision of visa letters where requested.

If you are travelling to Australia and New Zealand between 26 January and 5 April 2015 for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, you only need to apply for an Australian visa.

Under a new Trans-Tasman visa arrangement, eligible visitors will only need to apply for an Australian visa to travel to and between both countries for the period of 26 January and 5 April 2015. New Zealand will grant a three month visa on arrival to visitors holding an eligible Australian visa for the duration of the tournament.

Do I need to book my travel and accommodation in Australia and/or New Zealand now?

There will be high demand for accommodation in Australia and New Zealand during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, particularly in smaller host cities where accommodation is limited, so it is strongly advised that media book accommodation as far in advance as possible.

However, please note that your application for ICC CWC 2015 accreditation is not approved until you receive an email inviting you to the second phase of accreditation.
