Afghanistan can be World Cup dark horses: Munro
The big-hitting New Zealand batsman, who is currently playing for Balkh Legends in the Afghanistan Premier League, believes Afghanistan could well prove to be dark horses next year.
“They have match-winners with both bat and ball, and they have shown what they could do at the recent Asia Cup,” he told The Hindu.
With the likes of Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum and Shahid Afridi all taking part in the Afghanistan Premier League, Munro believes it is the perfect opportunity for the nation’s young stars to learn off the best ahead of the World Cup.
“I feel the APL would help their cricketers greatly. Rubbing shoulders with some of the best cricketers in the world will be beneficial for them.

“They have already begun asking me questions. And I will be happy if a couple of young Afghan cricketers gain something by working with players like me at the APL.”
Munro is expecting a wide-open tournament in 2019 and isn’t ruling out the chances of his Black Caps side claiming a maiden men’s World Cup title.
“I think New Zealand would play well in the conditions of England, where we have had successes in the past.
“England, West Indies and India too have good chances in what I think will be a hotly contested World Cup, with all teams playing one another once.”
