'I'm stoked that I'm back in the team' – Marcus Stoinis
That’s what lay in Marcus Stoinis’ mind after suffering a side strain against India just under two weeks ago. With Mitchell Marsh waiting in the wings, it seemed as if Australia’s leading all-rounder was set to miss the rest of the tournament.
Nevertheless, he returned to the Australia line-up on Thursday against Bangladesh, and played a key role with the ball – he became the first man at this year’s World Cup to dismiss Shakib Al Hasan for a score under 50 – to help his side to another victory, one that put them on top of the standings.
“Last couple weeks have been so exciting, a bit of a rollercoaster, and then I was a bit down in the dumps after I hurt myself the other day,” Stoinis said after the match. “Again now, I’m stoked that I'm back in the team and able to do my thing."

On making his recovery from injury, Stoinis said: “[There’s been] a lot of icing at night – there’s not much you can do beyond getting on the ice and the therabands and getting the muscle moving as much as you can.
“Your mind goes there [on potentially being ruled out of the tournament], but I think once everything sort of settled, I think it was going to be alright.”
For both Stoinis and Australia, the task now turns to facing England, who have continued to demonstrate their gung-ho approach with the bat, which Eoin Morgan manifested by smashing a 71-ball 148 in his sides 150-run over Afghanistan on Tuesday.
“It’s going to be a good challenge - hopefully I can nail some yorkers and bowl some good slower balls because they’re on fire. But yeah, we’ll have to come up with some good plans.”
