Wahab wants to use PSL as World Cup springboard

Wahab

Wahab, who played at the 2015 World Cup but hasn’t represented Pakistan in one-day internationals since June 2017, will be turning out for Peshawar Zalmi in the fourth edition of Pakistan’s T20 franchise competition.

He sees it as an ideal platform to show the selectors what he’s capable of and make a late surge for World Cup selection, despite being out of the white-ball side for almost 18 months.

“I’m focusing on PSL season four although it is franchise cricket, but as a professional I have to come up with the goods whenever I’m on the field,” he told Cricket Pakistan.

“It is another opportunity before the World Cup so I’m looking forward to it. I want to regain the attention of the selectors that I am ready and available for the World Cup.”

Since making his last appearance in the green of Pakistan, Wahab has played in various competitions across the globe, including the Caribbean Premier League for Barbados Tridents and the T20 Blast in England for Derbyshire. He is keen to keep improving on the pitch and let his performances do the talking.

Wahab Riaz's fiery spell against Shane Watson

Wahab Riaz bowled one of the most exciting spells in World Cup history, taking wickets and giving Pakistan a chance of beating Australia in Adelaide in the CWC15 Quarter-Final on March 19th 2015.

“When I was out of Pakistan team, I only played white-ball cricket which includes Caribbean Premier League, county cricket, Pakistan Super League and T10 League and my performances there are in front of everyone,” he added.

“Throughout that period I performed well and will continue to improve whenever I get the opportunity.”
