The race for the four remaining spots at ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 has taken a dramatic turn following the completion of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 cycle this week.

Oman were the fourth team to punch a automatic spot to the Cricket World Cup Qualifier via League 2, finishing above Namibia on the league table thanks to a Net Run Rate tiebreaker despite a loss on the final day of the competition.

It's not the end of the road for the Namibians however, alongside other bottom-four finishers in League 2, Nepal, UAE and Canada, who have another chance via the Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off.

A total of 14 teams remain in the running for the final four Cricket World Cup 2027 spots. Six teams already have secured their spot at the 10-team Qualifier, while the remaining eight are set to play in December competing for four spots to join them via the Qualifier Play-off.

With over 30 teams competing in international cricket that formed part of 2027 Cricket World Cup qualification, a look at the current scenario on the road to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Cricket World Cup Qualifier

The Cricket World Cup is a 10-team competition held in February 2027 to decide the final four places at the tournament proper.

Six of the 10 teams for the Qualifier have been decided. Ireland and the West Indies as the next best teams on the ODI rankings below automatic qualifiers for the tournament feature, as well as the top four finishers from Cricket World Cup League 2, a competition played over a nearly-three-year cycle.

After 36 matches played each,  USA Scotland, the Netherlands and Oman finished in the top four, securing their spot in the Qualifier.

All is not lost for those in the bottom four in League 2 - Namibia, Nepal, Canada and UAE - who can still take part in the tournament with a second chance of sorts via the Qualifier Play-off in December.

How are the final four spots for the Qualifier decided?

The final four spots will be determined at the eight-team Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off, where the bottom four of League 2 are joined by the four teams who prevailed in ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Challenge League.

The Challenge League, effectively the third tier of 50-over cricket, included 12 teams split across two groups of six, with the top two teams of each group moving to the Play-off.

Jersey and Kuwait secured the two qualifying places from Group A, while Italy and Uganda advanced from Group B.

The top four teams at the Play-off will take the last four places at the Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
