USA clinch League 2 title on road to 2027 Cricket World Cup
USA defeat Namibia in Dallas and as a result can't be caught at the top of the League 2 standings.
The USA have clinched the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 title with a hard-fought four-wicket triumph over Namibia in Dallas on Wednesday.
Skipper Monank Patel (108) was the hero with a superb century for the USA as they chased down Namibia's total of 298/9 with seven deliveries remaining at Grand Prairie Stadium.
It provided the USA with another two points on the League 2 standings and mean they cannot be caught despite the fact many of the eight teams in the competition still have matches remaining.
USA had already wrapped up their spot at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier, where they will get the chance to progress to next year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
CWC27 is coming to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia
The road to ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 leads to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Earlier it was experienced opener Michael van Lingen that provided the platform for Namibia to post a decent total as the left-hander combined well to put on century partnerships with Louren Steenkamp (30) and skipper Gerhard Erasmus (76) to ensure the USA would have to pull off a difficult run chase if they were to be crowned champions.
But the steady head of Monank and solid contributions from Smit Patel (50) and Shehan Jayasuriya (74) kept the USA on track as the hosts got over the line to claim the victory and win their first League 2 title.
