Bangladesh name squad for historic Australia ODI series

Bangladesh have named a 16-member squad for their upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, with regular captain Nigar Sultana Joty set to lead the side. Spinner Nahida Akter has been named vice-captain.

The squad is largely unchanged from the one that featured at the Women's Asia Cup and the Asian Games in Japan earlier this month.

Pacer Marufa Akter will spearhead the bowling attack, with 17-year-old Habiba Islam Pinky also included among the pace options.

Nigar Sultana Joty (c), Nahida Akter, Shorna Akter, Marufa Akter, Rabeya Khan, Ritu Moni, Sobhana Mostary, Sarmin Sultana, Sharmin Akter Supta, Shanjida Akther Maghla, Sultana Khatun, Dilara Akter, Farzana Haque, Disha Biswas, Murshida Khatun, Habiba Islam Pinky.

There are also a few notable changes to the touring party. Experienced batter Farzana Haque returns to the ODI setup, while Murshida Khatun makes her comeback after last featuring in January 2025. Young all-rounder Disha Biswas, who has recently represented the Bangladesh Emerging side, has also earned a place in the squad.

Meanwhile, top-order batter Juairiya Ferdous, experienced spinner Fahima Khatun and all-rounder Shorna Akter are among the players absent from the squad that travelled to the Asian Games.

The three-match series will form part of the ICC Women's Championship, with Bangladesh currently eighth in the standings. The tour presents an opportunity for Bangladesh to test themselves in challenging away conditions.
