Zimbabwe back historic-winning squad for India tour
Josephine Nkomo will lead a 15-player squad for Zimbabwe’s white-ball tour of India.
Zimbabwe has retained the squad that secured the country’s first-ever ICC Women’s Championship victory for the upcoming six-match tour of India.
Led by Josephine Nkomo, the 15-player side will face India in their first-ever bilateral international meeting, with the T20I series beginning on 16 October. The tour marks another important milestone for Zimbabwe following their historic four-wicket victory over West Indies at Harare Sports Club on 27 September.
Zimbabwe squad:
Josephine Nkomo (Captain), Beloved Biza, Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Kelis Ndhlovu, Michelle Mavunga, Francisca Chipare, Olinder Chare, Kudzai Chigora, Nyasha Gwanzura, Nomvelo Sibanda, Loryn Phiri, Chiyedza Dhururu, Modester Mupachikwa, Tendai Makusha, Sharne Mayers.
The three T20Is will be contested in Raipur, before moving to Vadodara for the ODI series from 23 October. The ODIs will count towards the ICC Women’s Championship.
Zimbabwe will look to carry the confidence from their breakthrough victory into the series against India.
Nyasha Gwanzura, who claimed career-best figures of 4/33 in that victory, has been retained alongside Michelle Mavunga and Francisca Chipare. The batting group includes Modester Mupachikwa, Sharne Mayers, Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Kelis Ndhlovu and Beloved Biza, while Nkomo and Nomvelo Sibanda bring further international experience.
The tour offers Zimbabwe an opportunity to build on their recent success against a formidable Indian side, with the ODI leg providing a chance to add valuable points to their ICC Women’s Championship campaign.
