New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and elected to bat against England.
After a watchful start, Black Caps openers Finn Allen and Tim Seifert stepped on the gas in the fourth over. Jofra Archer had started the innings with a maiden but was taken for 16 runs in his fourth over, as New Zealand raced to 54/0 in powerplay.
While New Zealand had started getting the measure of English pacers, the introduction of Adil Rashid derailed them. The leg-spinner lured Seifert out and Jos Buttler's completed the swift stumping. In the next over, Will Jacks struck with the wicket of Allen.
After 10 overs, New Zealand are 84/2.
