Namibia appoint Kirsten as consultant ahead of T20WC 2026

Former South Africa cricketer Gary Kirsten, who has a wealth of experience in his coaching career, has been appointed as a consultant for the national men's side.

Cricket Namibia announced Gary Kirsten as a consultant for their men's team. As a player, Kirsten scored 7289 Test runs and 6798 ODI runs from 101 Tests and 185 ODIs, respectively.

To add to his rich international experience as a player, Kirsten also excelled as a coach at the domestic and international level. He has been the head coach of India (who won their second ICC Men's Cricket World Cup title during his stint), South Africa, and most recently Pakistan.

His coaching expertise is also well-known in the world of franchise cricket, with the South African having coached in the renowned Indian Premier League.

Kirsten's appointment comes at a pivotal time for Namibian men's side, as they look to amp up their preparations for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

"It is indeed a privilege to work with Cricket Namibia," Kirsten told in a statement from the national governing body.

"I have been thoroughly impressed with the dedication and determination to create a high-performance cricket environment.

"Their new state-of-the-art cricket stadium is a testament to their commitment to making sure their national teams are competing with the best cricket countries in the world. Their senior men’s national team is performing well, and I look forward to adding value to their preparation for the T20 World Cup in February next year."

He will work closely with the National Men’s Head Coach, Craig Williams, providing input.
