Sri Lanka dealt injury blow on T20 World Cup eve
The co-hosts have introduced a replacement for their frontline pacer ahead of the marquee tournament.
Sri Lanka quick Eshan Malinga has been ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 owing to a shoulder injury.
The 25-year-old had sustained a blow during the recently concluded T20I series against England.
In his stead, Sri Lanka have added Pramod Madushan to their squad for the tournament.
Sri Lanka’s updated squad: Dasun Shanaka (c), Pathum Nissanka, Kamil Mishara, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, Kusal Janith Perera, Charith Asalanka, Janith Liyanage, Pavan Rathnayake, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Matheesha Pathirana, Pramod Madushan
Madushan arrives into the Sri Lanka squad with 12 T20I scalps to his name off eight appearances. His previous outing for the island nation had come back in 2023.
Led by Dasun Shanaka, the co-hosts have an impressive group of players, who will eye to repeat the heroics of 2014, when they went all the way to lifting the trophy.
Sri Lanka are slotted in Group B alongside Australia, Ireland, Oman and Zimbabwe. Their opening game will be against Ireland on February 8 at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
