Dean feeling well supported in new leadership role at CWC25
Charlie Dean is relishing England's vice-captaincy, crediting the wealth of experience in the team's ranks, as they continue to make their World Cup charge.
England enter their contest with Bangladesh full of confidence, coming off their dominant win over South Africa to fly out of the blocks at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025.
Along with an abundance of talent, the team is stacked with leaders; most notably captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, coach Charlotte Edwards and veteran Heather Knight. And those are strong foundations for Charlie Dean, who is thriving in her role at the World Cup as England's vice-captain.
Dean creditied Sciver-Brunt's attention to detail and determination as traits that inspire the rest of the team.
"You watch her bat and she's someone that really puts her hand up and has those big innings to the team," Dean told media.
"And from the way that she behaves, that filters down. (Edwards) reads the game really well, and it seems really simple when she talks it through. We all know that cricket can be quite complicated. So, I guess breaking things down, keeping it really simple, and going into specifics has really helped us as a group.

Sanjana Ganesan previews the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 clash between England and Bangladesh, who meet on the back of wins in their opening games.
"I'm really honoured to be vice-captain for this tournament. I guess being a bit of a sounding board for Nat, trying to make sure that she has everything she needs to be really clear and be the best version of herself for us. And I guess just being there as an option more than anything. I'm probably someone who's not going to come forward with 10 million different ideas, but I guess thinking about the game and having a bit of a cricket brain and trying to shout out when I feel like I see something that could really help.
"But we've got a lot of characters and leaders in this team. Heather (Knight) has been brilliant. She's come back from injury, I guess tapping into her knowledge when we can and really learning as a group."
Charlie Dean says England wary of Bangladesh | Pre-match Press Conference | CWC25
England spinner Charlie Dean speaks ahead of their ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 clash against Bangladesh.
Bowler Linsey Smith won Player of the Match honours in England's World Cup opener, ripping through the Proteas top-order to take 3/7 off four overs. Dean credited Smith's relelntless training.
"It's been quite a journey for her," Dean continued.
"She debuted in 2018, did play for a few years, made a comeback last year, made an ODI debut this year ... and just the way she performed, what does it say about her character? I think she's had an incredible journey in international cricket, I guess, breaking through in 2018 and then having a bit of a break. She's been working really hard for, well, I guess her whole career. But I guess specifically the last three years, she's really nailed her stuff in regional cricket and been so good that she's been hard to ignore. And I think that's a credit to her character.

Linsey Smith got England off to a spectacular start, running through South Africa's batting order, and was adjudged the Aramco Player of the Match.
"She's firing, she's determined, and she's someone that you want in your team. I think she's been exceptional for us, especially this summer. And I guess that's credit to the work that she's put in. And it's really exciting to be out there and loving her celebrations as well. Almost shocked, I think, when she got that first wicket. So yeah, I think with those kind of people, it's always amazing to see their success and celebrate as a team."
