Athapaththu returns to bat after CWC25 injury scare
After being forced off the pitch earlier in the innings Chamari Athapaththu returned to bat later during Sri Lanka's chase.
Having been stretchered off the pitch during the sixth over of Sri Lanka's ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 chase against England, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu made a return with the bat later in the innings.
The Sri Lanka skipper was seen limping while taking a run earlier during their chase of 254 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The team physio would rush in to tend to the 35-year-old as she lay on her back at the non-striker’s end.
Soon afterwards, with the game on a stoppage and Athapaththu unable to continue, she was stretchered off the pitch. The batter was unbeaten on seven when she was taken off the field.

Athapaththu would undergo treatment for a cramp in her right leg with the Sri Lanka team management confirming that she will be returning to bat in their chase.
She would walk back in, much to the delight of the home fans in Colombo, after Sri Lanka lost their third wicket in the 23rd over.
However, her stay in the middle was cut short by Sophie Ecclestone, who removed her with an absolute jaffa for the score of 15.
