Thailand win the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy 2025

After an enthralling tournament, a winner of the inaugural ICC Women's Emerging Nations Trophy has been crowned in Bangkok. 

Thailand were crowned champions of the inaugural ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy after a composed and consistent campaign saw them finish ahead of the field in the tournament.

The side delivered assured performances throughout the tournament, highlighted by strong wins and a disciplined showing in the decisive final round.

Natthakan Chantham (144 runs) and Sunida Chaturongrattana (13 wickets) were the top performers for the tournament hosts with bat and ball.

The tournament saw four sides - Thailand, UAE, Scotland and the Netherlands finish on equal points and the winner was eventually decided by the net run rate margin.

Thailand are the champions!

Thailand v Scotland

The virtual title decider certainly lived up to the billing, with Scotland electing to bat first. They were held by Thailand at 30/5 at the end of the sixth over, courtesy of fantastic bowling from Thipatcha Putthawong (4/17) and Suleeporn Laomi (3/11) as the hosts dominated, bowling out the Scots for 63 at the end of the 16th over.

However, Scotland had a sensational comeback in the second innings courtesy Olivia Bell's five-wicket haul (5/18) which left the hosts stranding at 34/5 in the seventh over.

Thailand skipper Naruemol Chaiwai kept her cool as she scored a vital 17 off 21 to help guide the hosts home with three wickets to spare. The win secured the title for Thailand, who won the inaugural Women's Emerging Trophy despite tying with Scotland, the Netherlands and the UAE because of their superior net run rate.

Netherlands win comprehensively

Netherlands v Uganda

In their final fixture of the tournament, Netherlands secured a routine victory over Uganda. The Dutch bowling attack kept the African side in control as they held them to 111/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Silver Siegers was the pick of the bowlers for the Netherlands as she picked up figures of 2/12 off her four overs. Meanwhile, Prosscovia Alako led the way for Uganda with 34 off 29 balls, a knock which featured four boundaries and one maximum.

Despite the early loss of their openers, Netherlands recovered with the partnership of Sterre Kalis (32) and Robine Rijke (36), whose 45-run stand guided them to victory in the 15th over by six wickets.

The Dutch eventually finished third on the tournament standings, with Scotland ending at four.

UAE's emphatic win

UAE v Namibia

UAE elected to bat first in their final fixture and capitalised on that decision. Skipper Esha Oza (68) and Theertha Satish’s (57) 114-run opening stand set up the innings beautifully for the Emiratis. This helped them set a decent total of 153 in their 20 overs.

Namibia got off to a shaky start as they found themselves reeling at 24/3 at the end of the sixth over. Wilka Mwatile then played a blinder of a knock, scoring 54 off 34 balls but could not get the African side over the line as they succumbed to a 28-run loss. Esha Oza (2/36) and Vaishnave Mahesh (2/13) were the pick of the bowlers as they took two wickets each to guide UAE to a comfortable victory to cap off their tournament.

The win had temporarily put UAE in contention of winning the tournament, but Thailand's net run rate eventually proved to be too good.They finished second on the points table.

Papua New Guinea beat Tanzania by 20 runs

PNG won the toss and elected to bat in this one, but got off to a shaky start as they lost skipper Brenda Tau (5) in the fifth over, and found themselves at 20/3. A brilliant partnership of 46 runs between Henao Thomas (47) and Pauke Siaka (24) stabilised the innings, as the side finished on 100 at the end of their 20 overs.

Perice Kamunya (2/25) and Saum Borakambi (2/17) picked two wickets each for Tanzania.

Perice Kamunya (27) was the standout batter for Tanzania, as she tried to guide her side home, but eventually fell at the end of the 19th over as Tanzania succumbed to a 20 run loss in their final game.

Siaka was the pick of the bowlers as she had figures of 3/10 off her four overs as Henao Thomas (2/15) and Isabel Toua (2/12) secured a brace each.
