Rahmat Shah's 144 in the first innings provides platform for Afghanistan's win
Afghanistan continued its domination over Kenya with an eight-wicket win on the third day of its four-day ICC Intercontinental Cup tie at the ICC Academy in Dubai on Tuesday (October 8).
Afghanistan began the day with victory in sight. Kenya had a lead of just 21, with Shem Ngoche and Hiren Varaiya, the tailenders, at the crease. However, they did well to guide Kenya to 140, having started the day at 93 for 8.
Varaiya top scored with a 56-ball 36, with six fours and was supported by Ngoche who hung around for 40 deliveries, scoring 11. Kenya's innings came to an end when Varaiya was dismissed by Yamin Ahmadzai, the medium-fast bowler.
Chasing just 69 to seal a fifth victory in the tournament, the Afghanistan openers added 22 for the first wicket before Nelson Odhiambo dismissed Fazal Nizai for 14. Javed Ahmadi departed soon after for 28 in the 14th over. The right-left combination of Rahmatullah Sahaq and Hashmatullah Shaidi ensured no more wickets fell as they overhauled the target with eight wickets in hand.
Rahmat Shah was adjudged Man of the Match for his knock of 144 in the first innings.
