Mendis, Tharanga make comeback in Sri Lanka squad

Calf injury rules Dilshan out of West Indies tri-series while out-of-form Thisara Perera gets the axe

Mendis, Tharanga make comeback in Sri Lanka squad - Cricket News
Tillakaratne Dilshan suffered the injury during the ICC Champions Trophy semi-final.
Ajantha Mendis and Upul Tharanga returned to the Sri Lankan team for the triangular series in the West Indies beginning on June 28, where India is the third side.

While Tharanga replaced Tillakaratne Dilshan, who was injured during Sri Lanka’s ICC Champions Trophy semifinal loss against India on June 20, Mendis replaced Thisara Perera, who was dropped after a poor show in England.

“Dilshan’s MRI showed a grade 2 strain to his right medial calf muscle. At this stage, the expected recovery time is 4-6 weeks,” Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.

Mendis, who had made a comeback into the limited-overs side in Australia earlier this year after recovering from a side strain, was overlooked for the Champions Trophy but his good showing in the domestic circuit paved the way for his return to the team.

Tharanga too was a part of the team that drew the five-match ODI series in Australia but was dropped after a poor outing, during which he scored 13 runs in three matches.

Squad: Angelo Mathews (capt), Upul Tharanga, Kusal Perera, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Mahela Jayawardene, Lahiru Thirimanne, Dinesh Chandimal, Jeevan Mendis, Lasith Malinga, Shaminda Eranga, Nuwan Kulasekara, Dilhara Lokuhettige, Rangana Herath, Sachithra Senanayake, Ajantha Mendis.
