Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe by 58 runs in the second One-Day International between the two sides in Dhaka on Monday (November 9) riding on the pace attack of Mustafizur Rahman and Al-Amin Hossain, who shared five wickets between them, to take the three-match series 2-0. The win made it five bilateral ODI series wins in a row at home for Bangladesh, its conquests including Pakistan, India and South Africa earlier this year.

Chasing Bangladesh's 241 for 9, Zimbabwe recovered from 78 for 4 to pose a real threat before Mustafizur and Al-Amin struck. Mustafizur finished with 3 for 33 but Al-Amin, who claimed 2 for 22, had a greater impact with two crucial wickets as Zimbabwe was all out for 183 runs in 43.2 overs.

Al-Amin broke a fifth-wicket partnership of 73 runs between Elton Chigumbura and Sikandar Raza when the two were taking the game out of Bangladesh’s control. He removed Raza (33) and Chigumbura (47) in successive overs to leave Mustafizur and Nasir Hossain (2 for 36) to clean up the tail.

Earlier, Imrul Kayes hit 76 to give Bangladesh a good score on a tricky pitch. Tinashe Panyangara claimed 3 for 41 for Zimbabwe, which needed a win to stay alive in the series after losing the opening match by 145 runs .

Bangladesh did not manage any big partnerships, as Zimbabwe struck at regular intervals after Chigumbura won the toss and elected to field. Taurai Muzarabani (2 for 32) and Graeme Cremer (2 for 41) were the other bowlers to shine alongside Panyangara.

Kayes anchored the Bangladeshi innings with six fours and four sixes during his 89-ball knock.

Bangladesh’s struggled in the absence of Shakib as Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored a century in the first game, fell for 21. Sabbir Rahman made 33 and Nasir struck 41 off 53 balls to boost the total.

The third and final game of the series will be played at the same ground on Wednesday.
