Wicket-keeper Rudi Second has been ruled out of South Africa’s Test series against India in October due to injury, with Heinrich Klaasen taking his place.
Second was handed a maiden Test call-up when South Africa announced their squad for the upcoming tour. However, he now requires immediate surgery having injured himself while practising with South Africa A, putting him out of contention for the three-match series.
Second, who is a seasoned first-class campaigner has played 105 matches and scored 6893 runs at an average of 45.05, while Klassen has played in 14 one-day internationals and 9 Twenty20 Internationals and never featured in Test cricket.
"Klaasen is part of the one-day squad for the South Africa A tour and he will now be added to the squad in Second’s place for the four-day series that will assist his preparation for the Proteas Test series," said Corrie van Zyl, Cricket South Africa’s acting director of cricket.
The Test series begins on 2 October in Visakhapatnam.
