Born on June 2, 1965, Steve Waugh captained the Australian Test team from 1999 to 2004, and was the most capped Test cricket player in history, with 168 appearances, until Sachin Tendulkar went past the number in 2010. Waugh went on to become one of the leading batsmen of his time and remains one of a very select group of players to have scored over 10,000 Test runs. He scored 10,927 runs in his 168 Test matches, with 32 centuries and 50 half-centuries. In One-Day Internationals, Waugh scored 7,569 runs in 325 matches at an average of 32.90. At the helm of the Australian team during its period of dominance at the turn of the millennium, Waugh led Australia in 15 of its record 16 consecutive Test wins, and to victory in the 1999 Cricket World Cup.
