Both matches cancelled as wet conditions lead to full-day abandonement
The second round of the tournament began as the first round ended, as overnight rain took its toll on the outfield despite a relatively sunny morning in Stirling. Even with the best efforts of the ground staff and frequent pitch inspections from the umpires, Scotland v USA was eventually abandoned without any play possible.
The ground staff continued their work throughout the afternoon but despite slight improvements to the outfield, the conditions could not be declared as fit for play by the umpires. The ground was not expected to improve enough before the cut-off time at 5.33pm. As such, the umpires made the call to abandon the match between USA and Netherlands.
Both of today’s matches will now be re-scheduled, with Scotland v USA taking place in tomorrow’s afternoon session (2.30pm), and USA v Netherlands planned for Saturday 19th August at 10.00am.
