HUGE GAINS FOR MUSHFIQUR AND LITTON IN ICC MEN’S TEST BATTING RANKINGS

  • Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam attains a career-best 11th position with nine-wicket haul against Pakistan in Sylhet Test

Bangladesh players Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das, who cracked centuries in the second Test of their ICC World Test Championship series against Pakistan in Sylhet, have made major gains in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings. 

Mushfiqur, who struck 23 and 137 in Sylhet to finish with 253 runs in the two Tests and was named the Player of the Series, has advanced 10 places to 16th position while Player of the Match Litton’s knocks of 126 and 69 have lifted him 14 places to 24th in the latest update carried out on Wednesday. 

Pakistan captain Shan Masood and middle-order batter Salman Ali Agha have gained two spots each after notching identical scores of 21 and 71 in the two innings. Masood is in 44th position and Salman 27th at the end of the series, which Bangladesh won 2-0 to go up to fifth in the ICC World Test Championship standings. 

In the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam has moved up two spots to a career-best 11th position after returning hauls of three for 67 and six for 120 while Mehidy Hasan Miraz remains Bangladesh’s second highest-ranked Test bowler, finishing the series in 25th position after also gaining two spots. 

Fast bowler Nahid Rana, who was named the ICC Player of the Month in April after helping win a home ODI series against New Zealand, continued his form in this series and his five wickets in the second Test have taken him from 64th to 54th in the Test bowling rankings. 

For Pakistan, new-ball bowler Khurram Shahzad has re-entered the rankings in 49th position after bagging four wickets in each innings while Hasan Ali has inched up one place up to 39th with four wickets in the match.
