Indonesia played host to the ICC East Asia-Pacific (EAP) conference which brought together 14 delegates from ten Members to focus on how the region can play its part in growing cricket in the region.

The three-day conference focused on the ICC and Members working in partnership, to enable National Federations to become empowered to reach more diverse cricketing communities at all levels. The ongoing development of a global strategy for the game was a key part of the conference. Members also shared cases of good practice in increasing participation in the region.

ICC Regional Development Manager – East Asia-Pacific, Jane Livesey said: “The ICC EAP regional conference was a huge success, it highlighted the importance of working in collaboration with every Member and with one vision. Together we can achieve unprecedented levels of growth and in doing so provide greater access to more people and a chance to be part of an inclusive world of cricket.”

Reflecting on the inclusion on the agenda of running Member-designed cricket games on the streets of Jakarta with Indonesian communities Livesey was positive about the future. “As a region we already produce a fifth of the total players of Associate Members. Over 198,000 women and girls play the sport in EAP, which equates to 48% of the total participants of the region. However, we need to continue to innovate and highlight that cricket is a bat and ball sport that can very easily be played anywhere, by anyone.”

General Manager - Cricket Indonesia, Fiermansyah Afie Panigoro said: “Cricket Indonesia was very excited to host the EAP Conference for the first time. Connecting and strengthening our relationships as a region is imperative and working together as a cricket family towards the development of the sport has been a highlight of the conference. This conference is important for our region as the ICC and the game of cricket keeps on evolving, we need to adapt and make continual improvements of the game.”

General Manager – Samoa International Cricket Association, Stella Siale-Vaea Tagitau said: “The ICC EAP regional conference is an ideal opportunity to push for a stronger and closer collaboration among Member countries of the EAP region. Sharing and learning from each other is very important as is strengthening the network with fellow Members.”

“It is important for Samoa Cricket to ensure that we align our objectives to a well-defined strategy that helps grow cricket and support one another. It is time Members should come to work together and not in isolation, so that we are not seen as competing with each other but more supporting one another.”

The conference also hosted the third ICC Global Leaders Academy accelerator programme. Delegates from ten Members attended the conference which provided them the opportunity to improve their leadership skills and look beyond the sporting landscape.
