Papua New Guinea’s Mahuru Dai has received an official warning and one demerit point after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during his side’s ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018 match against the United Arab Emirates at the Harare Sports Club on Sunday.

Dai was found to have breached Article 2.1.8 of the code, which relates to "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match".

Dai was charged by on-field umpires Shaun George and Simon Fry, and third umpire Langton Rusere when, following his dismissal, he threw his bat and batting gloves into the boundary markers and advertising boards as he left the field.

Dai admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Graeme La Brooy and, as such, there was no need for a hearing.

NOTES TO EDITORS

o Demerit Points to remain on a Player or Player Support Personnel’s disciplinary record for a period of twenty-four (24) months from their imposition following which they will be expunged

o Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
