PNG's Nosaina Pokana allowed to resume bowling in international cricket

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today confirmed that following remedial work and a reassessment, the bowling action of Papua New Guinea’s Nosaina Pokana has been found to be legal, and the left-arm fast bowler can now resume bowling in international cricket.

On 5 June 2018, Pokana underwent a reassessment of his bowling action at the National Cricket Centre, Brisbane, where it was revealed that the amount of elbow extension in his bowling action was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations.

The umpires are still at liberty to report Pokana in the future if they believe he is displaying a suspect action and not reproducing the legal action from the reassessment. To assist the umpires, they will be provided with images and video footage of the bowler’s remodeled legal bowling action.

Pokana was reported during an ODI between PNG and Hong Kong in Dubai on 8 December 2017 and had undergone an independent assessment of his bowling action on 6 January 2018 at the National Cricket Centre, Brisbane, where his bowling action was found to be illegal.
