  • Rohit Sharma reclaims No.1 ODI batter position in latest ICC Men’s Player Rankings

Zimbabwe’s star all-rounder and captain, Sikandar Raza becomes the number one all-rounder in the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings after a 13-year long international career. This comes off the back of some good individual performances during the tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in this week’s latest ICC Men’s Player Rankings update.

Although the results have largely not gone his team’s way in the series, Raza has led from the front and made good contributions with bat and ball. This includes last night’s encounter against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi where he scored a rapid 37 from 29 deliveries and bowled the most economical spell of none for 17 in four overs as Zimbabwe lost by nine wickets.

It was more than enough for the skipper to move one slot in the all-rounders list to unseat Pakistan’s Saim Ayub for the number one spot. This achievement pairs well with Raza’s number one ODI all-rounder ranking achievement from September (he is currently number two), speaking to the consistency of the player at international level. He has also progressed four places to 28th in the T20I bowlers’ list.

Other movements in the T20I all-rounders list include Pakistan’s Mohammad Nawaz moving one place to seventh position, along with Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai in joint-ninth spot.

India’s Varun Chakravarthy maintains his place at the top of the T20I bowlers list, while the West Indies’ Akeal Hosein shifts one place to sixth, followed by Nathan Ellis from Australia in seventh place.

Mohammad Nawaz has leaped 14 slots to enter the top 15, taking 13th place with career-best rating points of 638 and Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana trailing right behind him in joint-14th place.

Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan jumped eight slots from 12th to a career-best fourth in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings after successive innings of 80 not out against Sri Lanka and 63 against Zimbabwe in the tri-series. It is also his first break into the top five of the list, which is still topped by India’s Abhishek Sharma.

Former India skipper, Rohit Sharma tops the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings thanks to movements lower on the list and New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell missing the last two matches against the West Indies due to a groin strain.

The Windies’ captain, Shai Hope’s dazzling 109 from 69 deliveries in their lost second ODI against New Zealand in Napier allowed him to move two slots to eighth place, while the BLACK CAPS’ Rachin Ravindra shifted one up to 12th.

Devon Conway’s innings of 90 in the second match helped him gain 11 places this week to 31st while Kyle Jamieson won the Player of the Series award as the hosts won the series three-nil, rocketing him 22 slots to 97th place and to a career-best 386 bowling points.

In the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings, Australia got off to an electric start in the first match of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) series, beating England by eight wickets inside two days of the match taking place in Perth.

Travis Head (123 off 83 balls) smashed the fastest fourth-innings century in Test history, leading his team to victory with three days to spare and moved up four slots to sixth place on the batters’ list.

Mitchell Starc took a wicket in the first over of the match on his way to a career-best seven for 58 and 10 wickets in the match to move up to a career-best 820 rating points. He has moved two slots to fifth place on the list.

There were also gains for England players this week. Ollie Pope skipped four slots to 24th in the batters’ list, while captain, Ben Stokes advanced one slot to second place in the all-rounders list, with Gus Atkinson in eighth (from nineth previously).

Finally, in Bangladesh’s home series against Ireland, the hosts wrapped up a two-nil series victory over the visitors thanks to standout performances by Mushfiqur Rahim – 106 and 53 not out in his 100th Test – enabling him to move seven places to 30th in the batters’ list.

His teammate, Litton Das advanced eight places to 37th, while Mominul Haque also climbed eight slots to joint 46th. Ireland’s top-ranked batter is Lorcan Tucket, who progressed to 49th from 56th.

Taijul Islam became the first Bangladeshi bowler to take 250 Test wickets and was named Player of the Series thanks to his combined 13 wickets in the series. He was also rewarded in the Bowling Rankings, rising four slots to a career-equalling best 15th place.
