Uganda, Nigeria and Rwanda secure tickets to ICC Under 19 Men's Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifier 2027

Rwanda U19 secured their place to the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifier after beating Ghana by 43 runs at Gahanga B Oval.

The victory was an important response for the hosts after Nigeria ended their unbeaten start to the tournament with a seven-wicket victory on Wednesday.
Having won the toss and elected to bat first, Rwanda were bowled out for 136 in 33.3 overs before their bowlers produced a disciplined performance to dismiss Ghana for 93 in 30.4 overs.

Onesme Kwizera and Samuel Irakoze provided stability with the bat, scoring 33 runs off 54 balls and 34 off 53 deliveries respectively to help Rwanda post a competitive total.

Although the hosts were unable to reach a big score, their bowlers ensured the total was enough to secure a crucial victory.

Elise Gihozo was the standout performer, claiming four wickets for 28 runs in his 10 overs to earn the Player of the Match award.

Eric Hagenimana also played a key role, taking three wickets for 22 runs from his 10 overs as Ghana struggled to build meaningful partnerships.

Ghana’s innings never gained momentum, with wickets falling at regular intervals before they were eventually bowled out for 93.

Jacob Ayolehene was Ghana’s top scorer with 28 runs off 40 balls, but his effort was not enough to prevent Rwanda from completing the victory.

Uganda U19 maintained their unbeaten record with another convincing performance, defeating Sierra Leone by 98 runs at Gahanga Main Oval on Thursday.

Uganda were bowled out for 152 in 45.3 overs, with Robert Owili once again leading the batting effort with 53 runs off 83 balls.

Richard Sohera contributed 31 runs off 55 deliveries and was named Player of the Match for his overall contribution.

Sierra Leone struggled to build partnerships during their chase and were eventually bowled out for just 54 in 28.4 overs.

Charles Kamara top-scored with 26 runs off 67 balls, while Ibrahim Bangura added 23 from 41 deliveries and also claimed one wicket.

The victory gave Uganda a fourth consecutive win and confirmed their qualification for the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifier 2027.

**Nigeria U19 Vs Mozambique U19
**
Nigeria produced the biggest result of the day, thrashing Mozambique by 407 runs at RP-Kigali Oval on Thursday.

The victory was Nigeria’s third of the tournament and secured their qualification for to the Africa Qualifier.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Nigeria posted an imposing 464 for six in 50 overs.

Peculiar Egemasi was named Player of the Match after smashing 123 runs off 84 balls, including 18 fours and a six, at a strike rate of 146.43. He also picked the first hattrick of the tournament.

Bright Nyong was equally destructive, scoring 137 from just 53 balls, including 12 sixes, at a remarkable strike rate of 258.49.

Hosanna Omonkhobhio also made a significant contribution, scoring 84 runs off 73 balls as Nigeria piled up a huge total.

Nigeria’s dominance continued with the ball, with Kenneth Boniface taking three wickets for just 13 runs as Mozambique collapsed for 54 in 23 overs.

Rodrigue Rui Mangue top-scored for Mozambique with 19 runs, while Charles Manuel Mbebe and Emerson Rita contributed 10 and 11 respectively.

The teams will have a rest day on Friday before returning to action on Saturday for the final matches of the qualifying tournament.
