USA CLINCH LEAGUE 2 TITLE AFTER WIN OVER NAMIBIA

  • They qualify for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2027 along with Scotland and Netherlands

The United States have won the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 title after defeating Namibia by four wickets in Dallas on Wednesday.

The victory earned the USA two points, taking their tally to an unassailable 47 points midway into the three-team series being played at the Grand Prairie Stadium and also featuring the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The USA, Scotland (45) and the Netherlands (38) are now assured of berths in the 10-team ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2027 from League 2, which comprises series in different parts of the world.

The Qualifier will determine the final four berths at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia from 2 October to 21 November.

The winner of the Qualifier will secure a direct berth into Round two (Group Stage) of the World Cup while the other three teams making it from the Qualifier will play the Super Series (first round) of the World Cup.

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 will feature 14 teams and 57 matches across 12 venues. The tournament will return to Africa for the first time since 2003 and Namibia will be hosing matches for the first time ever.

The USA won against Namibia thanks to skipper Monank Patel, who scored a fine century (108) as the home side made a successful chase of 298 for nine with seven deliveries remaining. The USA had earlier chased a huge 331-run target against the UAE in which Milind Kumar had scored 116 off 84 balls.
