102 for Cooks Cricket
Ask Cook Island Cricket's CEO what his favourite number is and he will, without hesitation, tell you it is 102.
102 is the number of newly qualified scorers, coaches and umpires the national cricketing body has put through educational courses over the past fortnight.
Alister Stevic from Cook Islands Cricket said he has been blown away by the countries interest in cricket courses this season.
"Never in my 20 years of cricket experience across New Zealand, Argentina and here, have I experienced such an intense demand for educational courses ? Cricket is really seeing a leap forward in momentum this season."
Stevic said that educational courses have kind of been dismissed in the past, perhaps considered boring and unnecessary however local clubs and outer islands are now actively seeking out opportunities to learn, Stevic believes that taking the courses to the clubs has been a real benefit as well.
While the prime benefits will be experienced by those clubs and players who attended the courses, the whole country will benefit as the improved knowledge will strengthen all competitions.
"Congratulations to the Arorangi and Tupapa Clubs Avana and Turangi women's teams and the Aitutaki and Mauke island associations for their proactiveness in attending the courses," said Stevic.
