11 March - Tauranga - Pakistan Captain Bismah Maroof post-match press conference
Reporter: You’ve played three really tough opponents and in at least two of the matches you've given the team's a huge shot in the way that you guys played it - even in spite of losing. What are some of the lessons some of the younger players can take from playing close matches like this -surely in the future this will bode well for those players, learning lots of lessons at a World Cup like this.
Bismah: I think we have talked in meetings as well – about key moment in this crucial matches and I think today we fought really hard to try and win the match, but yes the key moments we lost and I think South Africa deserved to win and yes credit to batters as well- we had good partnerships in the middle as well.
Reporter: Can you just talk about where did it slip and also if you can provide an update on Javeria why she didn’t play?
Javeria has an injury, so that's why she was missing out and I think In last partnership that Nida and Diana was playing, I think Nida had the stage in the end, I think she could have finished the match, and yes as I talked about of key moments and I think that was crucial in that match.
Reporter: Can you provide an update - I mean what is the communication with Muneeba - before the World Cup she use to open in like 11- 12 matches But in three matches in this World Cup she hasn't played So what's your communication with her?
Bismah: We have Sidra and Nida and Javeria at the top and we're looking for the right combination because we need to have fun bowlers in our 11, so in this combination we want our best batters to play -I think Muneeba is in good form as well, it's just we're picking experience right now for the World Cup who was been - the players who have the experience - I think we are taking for this World Cup.
Reporter: We've seen In the last couple of games that Diana has really only shown a quality to come out there and you know take matters into her own hands and strike the ball really hard - So do you sort of see this as a missed opportunity to have not sent her up the order, maybe to support Nida a little earlier?
Bismah: I Think Nida and Sidra were also playing well and Sidra also has the ability to score quick runs and that’s what we backed – and Diana has shown that she can do - we know that in the end if we need runs, Diana can win for us.
Reporter: Just one thing - do we see a possibility of maybe Diana making it up in the games to come, given what she has shown in the last couple of weeks?
Bismah: We'll sit down and talk about it but right we haven’t thought of it.
Reporter: First of all, Pakistan bowling has been superb in first half of the game, taking early 5-6 wickets but when game proceeds, Pakistan team gave so many runs in death overs. Secondly, the run rate of Pakistani team in death overs is quiet slow, below than 4.5 runs per over which have cost us this match and previous match as well.
Bismah: Look, in death overs, wicket got bit flat and easy strip for batting. In my view, bowlers have done good job. Yes we were bit slow regarding run rate we could have improved it. We tried to maintain the overage of 4 runs per over. As you can see we took the game to end but could not finished well. We built few good partnerships in the middle but we could not avail the key moments.
Reporter: I have two questions for you. First one, you guys played very well but could not win the game unfortunately. Fatima bowled very well. You have also been leg spinner. What are your thoughts about Fatima performance today? Whether it is positive for Pakistan team. This was the first question. Second one is, Can you please tell us about Nida dar? She is vice-captain of team. She has been playing since long and has performed very well. She always play heartedly and bring positivity in the team. I need your thoughts about it.
Bismah: Fatima has performed very well and the way she has bowled today it seems that she is very clear about her plans. Her execution was very good. She is quick learner. Coming to Nida dar, she is our senior team member. The way she has performed has benefited the team a lot. She has won a lot of matches for us. Her inning in today’s match was also very crucial however, unfortunately, she could not finish it well.
Reporter: I wanted to ask that you were in a very realistic position to win today and you know everyone -I mean the expectation was that you will potentially cross the line - how do you pick yourself up after a loss like this when you were in a position to win the game.
