12 teams for Champions League T20

The Champions League Twenty20 tournament will be expanded from eight to 12 teams and include the domestic champions from West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka along with teams from India, Australia, South Africa and England.

Organizers announced details of the India-based tournament Sunday, when Deccan Chargers beat Royal Challengers Bangalore to win the second edition of the Indian Premier League T20 tournament, held in South Africa.

The first Champions League was postponed last year in the wake of terror attacks on Mumbai, India's financial and entertainment hub. It had been scheduled to feature two teams each from India, Australia, South Africa and England.

The new tournament dates are Oct. 8-23, with 23 matches scheduled and $6 million in prize money up for grabs.

A draw will be held June 23 in London.

India will have three teams in the competition, with Delhi Daredevils joining Deccan and Bangalore after finishing atop the IPL standings at the end of the league stage.

Victoria and New South Wales states qualified from Australia, with Cape Cobras and Eagles from South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago from West Indies, Otago from New Zealand and Wayamba from Sri Lanka.

The two English teams will be decided after the domestic Twenty20 championship, which ends in August.
