#OnTheUp: A thousand emotions, a single word – ‘greatest’

England cricket has gone through an emotional roller coaster after that final, but if the last week is any indication, there could be much more of it.

Over a week has passed since the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019 concluded with a historic final. But players are still struggling for words to describe the events that unfolded at Lord’s on Sunday, 14 July.

Some, like Eoin Morgan, just chose to go back to the moment and relive it. They did use a few words along the way – but words that ring true in a lot of ears.

Given all the drama that ensued that day, it was perhaps fitting that the tributes included one from an executive of a company that calls its product “sports entertainment”.

Jason Roy, meanwhile, was so brilliant throughout the World Cup that he’s getting credit for things he never even did.

While the men had a lot to smile about, the mood in the women’s camp was a lot more sombre.

Ellyse Perry was at the centre of all attention for her stupendous feat.

Cricket isn’t done throwing up last-over thrillers yet. After a slew of one-sided matches, the T20 Blast was back to entertaining as Kent secured a two-wicket win over Hampshire, with a ball to spare.

At the same tournament, Glenn Maxwell reinforced one of cricket’s great lessons.
