India U19, news

Maharshtra's Siddhesh Veer has been called up to India's 15-member squad for the ICC U19 World Cup 2020 as a replacement to the injured all-rounder Divyansh Joshi.

Joshi, who was named in the original squad last month, sustained a shoulder injury while fielding during the youth one-day series against South Africa.

"India U19 all-rounder Divyansh Joshi has been ruled out of the upcoming World Cup following an injury sustained in the first match of the bilateral one-day series against host South Africa," the BCCI stated in a release on Friday, 10 January.

The release further added: "Divyansh dislocated his right shoulder after suffering a fall while India U19 were fielding. The All-India Junior Selection Committee has named Siddhesh Veer from Maharashtra Cricket Association as Divyansh's replacement."

Veer played in the quadrangular one-day series involving the New Zealand and South Africa U19 teams earlier this week. He scored 71 in India's win over New Zealand opening the batting and then hit 48* in the final against South Africa batting at No.6 on Thursday, which India won by 69 runs. He also picked up a wicket in that game.

Defending champions India begin their U19 World Cup campaign on 19 January against Sri Lanka in Bloemfontein.

India U19 squad: Priyam Garg (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Divyaansh Saxena, Dhruv Chand Jurel (vc), Shashwat Rawat, Siddhesh Veer, Shubhang Hegde, Ravi Bishnoi, Akash Singh, Kartik Tyagi, Atharva Ankolekar, Kumar Kushagra, Sushant Mishra, Vidyadhar Patil
