Scotland beats Kenya in rain-marred clash

Hosts come out victorious in truncated game, reach second position on WCL points table
Scotland edged past Kenya in their ICC World Cricket League Championship match by four wickets on the reserve day of Wednesday (July 3) at Mannofield Park, Aberdeen.

Scotland resumed its innings at 22 for no loss after play had to be called off on Tuesday. Chasing 184 for victory and the second spot on the points table, Kyle Coetzer and Matt Machan put on a 51-run partnership off 63 balls after the early fall of Freddie Coleman.

Scotland seemed like it was headed for a comfortable win before Machan was caught at mid-off by Rakep Patel in the 21st over after he got a leading edge off Hiren Varaiya. Nehemiah Odhiambo struck twice in his two overs to bowl out Coetzer and Calum MacLeod soon after.
As Kenya threatened to take control of the match, rain once again played spoilsport and the umpires had to call for the covers with Scotland on 106 for 4 in 28.2 overs. As conditions failed to improve over the next hour and a half, the match was reduced to 35 overs after a final ground inspection by the umpires.

Having been set a target of 139 in the remaining 6.4 overs, Rob Taylor and Ritchie Berrington played quickfire knocks to take the hosts to victory.

The two teams meet next on July 7  at the same venue in an Intercontinental Cup clash.

Brief Scores: Kenya 183 in 46.3 overs (Tanmay Mishra 59, Collins Obuya 25; Neil Carter 3-27, Rob Taylor 3-39) lost to Scotland 106 for 4 in 33.4 overs (Kyle Coetzer 57, Matt Machan 20; Nehemiah Odhiambo 2-32, Ragheb Aga 2-32) by 4 wickets (D/L method)
