New Zealand-West Indies match called off due to wet outfield after persistent rains

The second One-Day International between New Zealand and the West Indies was abandoned on Sunday (December 29) without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain.

Although the rain was heavy, ground officials said part of the outfield at McLean Park in Napier had become too wet to be readied for play in time for even a reduced 20-over match.

The match was scheduled for a 2.30pm start, but even though there were sunny skies, play was called off at 5.20pm, 20 minutes after the umpires inspected the ground.

West Indies lead the five-match series 1-0 after winning the opening ODI in Auckland on Boxing Day by two wickets. The next game is in Queenstown on Wednesday.
